The buzzing sound?
Do you hear that?
There it is again.
B z z z z z z z
No? Well, I really shouldn’t have asked. Most people can’t hear it, anyway. But, if you could, you’d think it sounds like you’re teetering on the edge of the universe. That’s what Isabelle Bean thinks…and she’s not that far from the truth.

You really don’t hear that?
Well, it’s actually not that great to have a buzzing in your ear. It’s distracting for one thing. And when Isabelle starts listening to the buzz instead of, say, her boring teacher, strange things happen. She gets sent to the principal’s office (that’s not so strange), but then while awaiting her punishment, she tumbles into an adventure—into another world that’s a little bit different, a little bit Hansel & Gretel-y, a little bit like a fairy tale, which would be great, but…did I mention that Isabelle is an unusual dresser? When she shows up in fairy-tale land wearing her favorite high, pointy boots, the fairy-tale people start thinking that Isabelle is a witch — and not just any witch, but the witch!
From Edgar Award-winning author Frances O’Roark Dowell comes the unlikely story of Isabelle Bean—an ultimate misfit, an outsider extraordinaire, and not a witch!
Josephine Nobisso – Today on Book Bites for Kids

Join me at 2:00 CDT this afternoon when my guest on Book Bites for Kids will be children’s author Joephine Nobisso. She’ll talk about her many picture books for children including Take It to the Queen: A Tale of Hope.

An Interview with Kathryn Fitzmaurice

Listen to a previously recorded interview with children’s author Kathryn Fitzmaurice today at 2:00 CDT on Book Bites for Kids. Kathryn talks about her book The Year the Swallows Came Early.
About the Book: Eleanor “Groovy” Robinson loves cooking and plans to go to culinary school just as soon as she’s old enough. But even Groovy’s thoughtfully—planned menus won’t fix the things that start to go wrong the year she turns eleven—suddenly, her father is in jail, her best friend’s long-absent mother reappears, and the swallows that make their annual migration to her hometown arrive surprisingly early. As Groovy begins to expect the unexpected, she learns about the importance of forgiveness, understands the complex stories of the people around her, and realizes that even an earthquake can’t get in the way of a family that needs to come together.
Kathryn Fitzmaurice’s lovely debut novel is distinctively Californian in its flavor. Her rich characters and strong sense of place feel both familiar and fresh at first meeting—and worth revisiting, again and again.
Marilyn Randall Visits Book Bites for Kids

Children’s book author/ illustrator Marilyn Randall will be the featured guest on Blog Talk Radio’s Book Bites for Kids, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. Central Time to discuss and review Ms Randall’s newest children’s book, Share From The Heart.
Book Bites For Kids is a program created to enlighten listeners about children’s books and introduce them to the authors who write them. Host Suzanne Lieurance moderates the show with questions designed to keep the listeners well informed about the stories available for families with young children and about the people who are writing these stories. The show airs at 12:00 noon Pacific Time for those of you in the same time zone as author Marilyn Randall.
This will be the second appearance for Marilyn and in her own words she talks about being interviewed on the show; “It is a pleasure to be asked to do these interviews with Suzanne as it gives me the opportunity to share about how each story has been created and how my work comes to life. I write and illustrate these children’s books, which are moral, spiritual and somewhat faith based in content and I love having the opportunity to share about the characters and how they were created. Radio interviews are informative and a great way to be more connected with my reading audience. It is always a hope that new fans will be generated after listening to these interviews and as they have a better opportunity to become acquainted with the author’s personality as well as the opportunity to learn what inspires the books that we write.”
Marilyn Randall has written and illustrated six children’s books, which were published and released in 2009 and 2010. Share from the Heart and the other five can be found at her web site www.marilynrandall.com. The publisher is Xlibris.com and books can be ordered through them or at amazon.com and numerous other online bookstores. Martha the (confident) Mouse

Karen Lang, author and illustrator of Martha the (confident) Mouse, is my guest today at 2:00 CDT on Book Bites for Kids.
About the Book:
Martha, a shy and timid mouse, lives alone in a tree fort, high above a cottage. She dreams about the mice that live in the cottage, and the friendships she might enjoy… if only she could figure out a way to manage her worries, … and feel confident about making new friends.
Martha the (confident) Mouse, is a story that tackles shyness, a social anxiety affecting people of all ages. Making rational sense of this with children, and teaching them concrete strategies to manage it, can be challenging to say the least!
Martha’s simple “idea” is a straightforward and visual strategy, allowing her to manage her feelings of shyness and worry with confidence. It is also about having the courage to take a chance in a situation that may seem completely overwhelming, and the belief that one can find ways to manage and conquer one’s fears and trepidations.
