This is me when I was about 4 years old. I was a happy kid, although my parents tell me I was a bit bossy, even back then. I like to think I was just a leader!

I don’t remember writing much of anything until I was in the 5th grade. My teacher, Mrs. Smith, let us write our own little plays and perform them for the class every Friday afternoon. After I wrote my first short play and my friends and I performed it before the class, I was hooked!

I also loved to read when I was in elementary school. My favorite book was called The Magic Pin. It was about a little girl who had a horseshoe shaped pin. Whenever she wore it, she could talk to animals. Since I loved dogs and wished I could understand what they were saying whenever they barked, I really wanted my own magic pin.

I still love dogs. Here are my two dogs who are my writing buddies these days. They like to sit at my feet whenever I write. When the weather is nice, I write outside and the dogs stay right with me. The big dog is Mikko. The little dog is Daisy. People say she looks just like a little black pig. She eats like a pig, too!
